This abert squirrel seems surprised to see me with the camera. Usually they run at the first sight of me, but this one took a few seconds to decide the level of threat. I didn’t move and the squirrel rewarded me with this pose.
That squirrel is so cute I might not let my dog chase it out of my yard! Eat my seeds, oh tufted ear squirrel!

The ear tufts give these squirrels a comic look, don’t you think? If they will pose, one can capture some funny expressions.

I happen to find your blog while surfing the web regarding Abert Squirrels. I live in Larkspur, CO and we have lots of them living in the Ponderosa pines. About three weeks ago, before the last snow storm that hit our area with 14″ of snow, I saw 8 of them running in a line through my yard chasing each other. They are frisky and I know they breed this time of year. All one’s living in my yard are total black, with no white on them. I have several beautiful gray ones, one with fluffy gray on it’s back, white stomach, and black tuxedo stripes on it’s sides. The fur is beautiful on this one I see.
However, in the past week I have not seen one in my yard. The red squirrels are here but no Abert squirrels. Many of us have raked our yards and the pine cones are now scarce. Why would they have disappeared and where did they go? No food?

Just curious. Thanks.
